Designer to Project Manager

Outside of my comfort zone learning how to minimize stress and risk.

Introduction

I had an opportunity to work as a designer for a startup company located in the centre of Paris. The company was promoting their own content management system called Easyplay just a few years after WordPress released their CMS.

Objectives

As a Designer, my work included end-to-end  User Interface and the User Experience. (The misunderstanding of UX design)

We needed coordination from  sketch to the project completion, and I took on those responsibilities   ensuring  that the planned work is monitored from different angles so that the go-live projected dates are maintained.

With regard to our main goal, from sketch to the project completion we had to ensure that the work goes as planned and monitor it from different angles so that the forecast goes well in the wake of launches.

Who are the stakeholder?

Our clients included a mix of sectors and industries:

Luxury castles, cosmetics, multinational insurance, finance and they wanted one thing; to establish a professional online presence.

The challenge

My role included  fully understanding the client requirements in a short period of time, the vision for the online presence and then  ensuring the design project was organised to meet the requirements.

Our team included 5 roles: myself, Designer, a front-end developer, a full stack developer, a project manager, and the manager of the company in a sales role, it was indeed challenging.

As the work coordination needs increased, I was promoted to Project Manager  coordinating all design incoming requirements.

From there:

  • I conducted e-commerce and corporate websites creation projects;
  • Managed  a team composed of 3 developers, and a webmaster;
  • Delivered  training sessions to customers and interns on how to use Content Management Systems such as EasyPlay (for corporate websites), WordPress and Prestashop (for e-commerce websites);
  • Implemented  search engine optimization (SEO) services including competitive intelligence, search trends analysis, and web page optimizations;
  • Wrote  documentation, user manuals, and business proposals;
  • Developed g web pages, interactive animations, and newsletters.

End of the line

It was quite challenging to keep all tasks on estimate, within the budget constraints and ensure that the projects were handed over on time. Here is a selection of the projects:

Because it was the right time for change, as of today the ex-manager has shared his part of the company and implemented a brand new solution:
